Jamie Elizabeth Hudrlik is a visual artist whose large-scale paintings explore dream-like narratives and emotional storytelling through female figures and the environments they inhabit. Raised in small-town Iowa, her work is deeply rooted in memory, imagination, and a sense of place—infused with the innocence of childhood, the complexities of growing up, and the transformative impact of life-altering events.
Hudrlik began her formal studies in illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City in 2000. After returning to the Midwest following the events of September 11, she resumed her painting practice in Chicago, earning a BFA in Painting from Columbia College Chicago in 2004. While at Columbia, she was awarded a studio residency and the prestigious Weisman Grant, which supported the completion of The Alphabet Series—a body of twenty-six large, unstretched paintings that marked the beginning of her signature scale and style.
